The International Code Council has seen a growth in Membership, an increased profile within the community of non-profit organizations, increased stature in areas ranging from sustainability to disaster support to general public safety issues, and due to prudent financial policies has been able to weather the economic storm under the leadership of Richard P. Weiland. He became Chief Executive Officer of the International Code Council in 2006, after serving for three years as the Code Council’s Chief Operating Officer.

The International Code Council always focuses on its Members, but this is a special time as ICC recognizes 2011-2012 as the Year of the Member.

Comments: Codes and Disaster Mitigation

Richard P. Weiland and W. Craig Fugate

ICC CEO Richard P. Weiland and Administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency W. Craig Fugate.

Disaster mitigation is a major reason the International Codes are developed, adopted and enforced. It is why we lend our expertise when partnering with organization, such as the National Storm Shelter Association to develop the ICC 500: Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters. It is why we signed the Memorandums of Understanding with such organizations as the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety's Research Center to advance the science of building safety; and it is why we are involved with the National Wildland Urban Interface Council to mitigate wildfires...Similarly, the Code Council is proud to have strategic partners and supporting organizations, along with government agencies such as FEMA who work with us in many ways - from participating in code development to supporting code adoption and enforcement - to help our association build better and stronger communities.

- Richard P. Weiland, CEO, International Code Council
