Jimmy Brothers serves as an appointee to the Alabama Residential and Energy Codes Board, which is responsible for developing the first statewide construction regulations for minimum energy code compliance and minimum codes and standards for residential construction. Brothers was the Director of the Decatur, Alabama, Building Department until his retirement on Jan. 31, 2011. Under his leadership the city of Decatur was the first in the United States to adopt the ICC Performance Code for Buildings and Facilities. He formerly served on the Legislative and Codes Advisory Council for the American Society of Interior Design, and is Past President of the North Alabama Code Officials Association and the Code Officials Association of Alabama (COAA). In 1997, Brothers was the recipient of the Alabama Code Official of the Year Award, and was presented the COAA Distinguished Service Award in 1999. Brothers is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
