Important Change to What’s Coming in 2012

Throughout 2012, the ICC Certification and Testing department is making a number of exciting changes to our computer-based exam registration process and the exams themselves. These changes will create a more user-friendly testing experience for our candidates, and an updated look to the exams. Please note the change to availability of computer-based exams based on the 2012 International Codes.

Here's a quick look at what's upcoming:

  • Starting November 1, 2011, all candidates registering for a National Certification or UST/AST computer-based exam through Pearson VUE must have a valid e-mail address. Providing an e-mail address is mandatory, and will allow candidates to receive their confirmation letter/receipt of payment.

  • Starting in the spring of 2012, all candidates registering through Pearson VUE for a National or jurisdiction-specific Contractor/Trades computer-based exam, or North Carolina Certification computer-based exam must have a valid e-mail address. Providing an e-mail address will be mandatory. Watch this page for more information on the timing of this change.

  • 2009 International Code-based National Certification exams will continue to be offered via computer-based testing throughout 2012, with exceptions noted in the Examination Information Bulletin. Launch of 2012 International Code-based National Certification exams via computer-based testing will be determined later in 2012.
    • National Certification exams based on the 2006, 2009, and 2012 editions of the International Codes will be offered via paper-and-pencil testing starting with the first quarterly scheduled administration date in March 2012, and continuing throughout 2012.

  • Starting January 1, 2012, ICC transitioned from using a hard-copy plan set as part of selected exams to using electronic exhibits. Instead of flipping through a plan set to answer questions on the exam, you'll instead click on a button that will bring up one or more figure drawings or exhibits, which you'll then use with the code to answer the question.
    • Exams affected by the transition to electronic exhibits:
