    California Codes Examination Information

The California Certification Program meets the intent of Assembly Bill No. 717, which requires certification and training of construction inspectors, plans examiners, and building officials. It was designed for those jurisdictions requiring knowledge and application of the California Codes, and is deemed substantially equivalent to the corresponding Code Council certifications. Successful candidates can apply for the equivalent Code Council certifications. See the Information Bulletin for information on how to transition to the Code Council certifications and how to transition from Code Council certifications to California-specific certifications.

    Request Paper Certificate

State Certification Programs

ICC’s State Certification Program allows individuals to demonstrate their knowledge of codes, standards and practices in their specific state or jurisdiction.

Legacy Certification Programs

Some jurisdictions have not yet adopted all of the International Codes and still use codes such as the 2003 International Building Code, the National Building Code, the National Fire Prevention Code, the National Standard Plumbing Code, the Uniform Plumbing Code, and the Uniform Mechanical Code. These codes are referred to as “Legacy Codes.” Therefore, the certification examinations for these categories are called “Legacy Exams.”
