CPSE and IAS Partner on Fire Prevention and Life Safety Department Accreditation Program

The International Accreditation Service (IAS), a subsidiary of the International Code Council (ICC), and the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) have partnered to create an accreditation program for fire prevention and life safety departments. Based on the Accreditation Criteria for Fire Prevention and Life Safety Departments AC426, accreditation by IAS conveys formal recognition to fire prevention and liflaure safety departments that have demonstrated technical competence to administer an effective system of code enforcement, fire prevention, life safety programs and other functions of fire marshals’ offices that benefit the communities they serve. Sound the Alarm Web Site Now Available

The International Code Council (ICC) and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) announce the release of the Sound the Alarm web site at www.soundthealarmtoday.org. Sound the Alarm is a community outreach and education program designed to reduce rural community fire hazards and other potential dangers in residential homes. The ICC received a Fire Prevention & Safety Grant to implement Sound the Alarm, and the NVFC is assisting with the execution of this pilot program.

    Green Building Fire Safety Program

Recognizing that "green buildings" are becoming a popular building construction design for the purpose of conserving energy and resources, the Emergency Management and Response--Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EMR-ISAC) identified a new website devoted to "green buildings" and fire safety. This site is the result of initiatives by the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) to develop tools to facilitate the sharing and disseminating of information on the fire safety of "green buildings." Although the primary target audience is the fire service, "every effort is being made to address all stakeholders."
