West Palm Beach, Florida-
January 14, 2010-
Yesterday, Mayor Frankel of the city of West Palm Beach, Florida announced in her State of The City address to a standing room only crowd that the city will be the first city in the United States to partner with the National Green Energy Council on a Green Resource Center in downtown West palm Beach, Florida.
The Green Resource Center
"The first ever Green Resource Center in West Palm Beach, Florida will become a beacon to the country in regards to the assistance it gives to the city, it's residents and the green tech companies that are looking to call West Palm Beach home." stated Ralph Avallone, President of the National Green Energy Council. The Green Resource Center has been a focus of the GEC for over a year. The GEC had presented the idea to many other U.S. cities including Providence, Rhode Island,Philadelphia,Chicago, New York, Newark, New Jersey, Austin, Texas, New Orleans and Miami. No other city wanted to take the first step.
The West Palm Beach Green Resource Center will become a community research center for energy efficiency and renewable energy as well as a local sustainable business incubator for Florida Green Tech companies. The GEC will create educational seminars, classes and educational forums for local government officials, corporations, small business owners and local residents. New Green Technologies will be showcased every month at the center.
The staff of the resource center will possess the knowledge, and expertise to perform a market analyses for it's clients in regards to their current energy usage.
The GEC's Green Resource Center Plan is to:
1). Create a facility with educational classroom areas. Classes will be held by representatives of the National Green Energy Council, product manufacturers, synergy partners and trade associations.
2). Create a location within the City that consults local residents and businesses on how to reduce their energy usage through energy efficiency retrofits and renewable energy technologies.
3). Perform business community outreach in order to educate existing employees about energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
4). Entertain monthly discussions amongst community leaders about opportunities within the locale in regards to alternative energy applications and green job training.
5). Create an educational environment for the newly unemployed that will assist them in changing their career paths in order to take advantage of new 21rst century green tech jobs.
"This model will allow the GEC to literally get in the trenches where the unemployed are.Where the average Americans are that can't afford the high cost of energy. Where we can train unemployed people to become a 21rst Century Green Tech workforce!" exclaimed Avallone. "We will be able to help new start up Green Tech companies in the centers sustainable business incubator."
The National GEC presented Mayor Frankel with over 14 letters of intent from Green Tech manufacturing companies that are looking to work with the city to find locations to begin providing "Green" jobs.
Many of them have begun working with the city already." You know, you hear "Green" jobs this and that but the reality is that they do not exist in the magnitude that we need to get Americans back to work" said Avallone.
"President Obama knows that Green Tech is the only thing on the radar that can save our economy and that means we need to subsidize the Green Tech Industry" continued Avallone. "We need to make things again and those things are Green Tech products. Then we need to ship them all over the World!"
The Green Resource Center is slated to open in mid April 2010 at the City of West Palm Beaches E4 Summit during Earth Day week.
