    New Preferred Provider Program FAQ Now Available

    The International Code Council continues to develop the new Preferred Provider Program (PPP) to expand the number of training topics and opportunities available to ICC Members, Chapters and others in the construction industry. The program will be a vehicle for Chapters and other education and industry providers to offer quality educational programs to code and fire officials, architects, engineers, designers, contractors and all industry professionals. Answers to many Frequently Asked Questions about this new program are now available.

    Free Online Tornado, Hurricane Safety Course Available

    The Code Council is offering a free online course in the ICC Online Campus to provide consumers with the information necessary to make an informed decision about installing a storm shelter in their homes. The course provides additional information on the weather hazards which affect life safety and how a storm shelter mitigates these risks. View the free online course today.

    ICC, NASFM Offer Crowd Manager Training

    Fatal disasters such as the Indiana State Fair 2011 stage collapse and the 2003 The Station nightclub fire illustrate the need for "trained crowd managers" to prevent repeat catastrophes. A new training program is available through the Code Council and National Association of State Fire Marshals. The program aims at making public gatherings safer by teaching event staff how to be better crowd managers.

    2012 IRC and DCA-6 Provisions for Residential Wood Decks.

    This is a pre-recorded webinar. It begins with a presentation of the 2009 and 2012 International Residential Code© (IRC©) provisions for deck ledger materials and connections. The deck ledger fastening table, allowable wall sheathing, fastening patterns, and types of fasteners will be discussed. Continuing research and development of deck construction will also be discussed. The second portion of this webinar is a discussion of American Wood Council’s DCA 6 Prescriptive Residential Deck Construction Guide which has been recently updated to include guidance on provisions in the 2012 IRC© pertaining to single level residential wood deck construction. Provisions contained in DCA-6 that are not included in the IRC are considered good practice recommendations. An overview of the significant changes to DCA 6 and include several examples showing application of the guide will be presented.

It also assists code users in identifying the specific code changes that have occurred and understanding the reason behind the change. Finally, it focuses on those code changes selected due to their frequency of application, special significance or change in application. This course uses the Significant Changes to the International Building Code 2015 Edition.
