September 11, 2014 | Professional Development Council Named. The new Professional Development Council (PDC) was recently established to better coordinate career path resources for ICC Members and other stakeholders by utilizing shared knowledge between ICC Education and Certification programs. The ICC Board of Directors approved the new Council Policy #45 in April 2014 to create the PDC and by which it will be governed. This critical new Council, chaired by Cindy Davis, CBO, replaces both BIPS and the Education Committee. A major purpose of the PDC is to align the ICC Education and Certification Programs to ensure quality training is available to meet the needs of ICC Members, all ICC educational customers and ICC Certification holders while maintaining the credibility and validity of the ICC Certification Program.

September 3, 2014 | NFPA Challenges ICC and Other Organizations to Take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. NFPA's senior staff took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, a fundraising effort to treat and cure ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Before the icy water was dumped over their heads, the senior staff threw down the gauntlet to 10 other organizations to participate in the fundraiser.

August 26, 2014 | California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services Coordinating to Support Local Jurisdictions Impacted by Earthquake. The Office of Emergency Services activated its operations centers to dispatch state resources and provide assistance to Napa county. Volunteers have been told to standby for details and not deploy. Support also is available from the ICC Disaster Response Network. Jurisdictions can access a database of volunteers to assist with building damage assessment, inspections and other code-related functions. August 25, 2014 | New Partnership Makes 2015 IgCC Florida Comment Hearings Even More Important. The Public Comment Hearings to develop the 2015 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) beginning Oct. 1, in Fort Lauderdale, take on even more importance with the announcement of a new partnership to develop the 2018 IgCC. The outcomes of the October hearings will influence future editions of the IgCC and ensure the code is on track for the transition to include ASHRAE Standard 189.1 and the LEED green building program in the 2018 edition. The 2018 IgCC will continue to be an important member of the I-Code family. It will be an easier to adopt and smarter code for commercial and mid/hi-rise residential buildings, meeting the needs of jurisdictions, green building professionals and everyone in between.
August 21, 2014 | Leading Building Industry Groups Agree to Streamline Green Building Tool Coordination and Development. ICC, ASHRAE, AIA, IES and USGBC have announced the signing of a memorandum to collaborate on the development of Standard 189.1, the International Green Construction Code (IgCC) and the LEED green building program. The move will coordinate Standard 189.1, the International Green Construction Code and LEED to offer comprehensive system of regulatory and voluntary leadership tools for jurisdictions. August 18, 2014 | Be Sure You Know the ICC Code Development Process Deadlines. ICC requires that Primary Representatives must complete an online questionnaire by Sept. 1 for Governmental Member Voting Representatives (GMVR) to be to be eligible to vote at this year’s Annual Business Meeting, Public Comment Hearing and Online Governmental Consensus Vote. If a GMVR was properly validated for the 2014 Online Assembly Floor Motion, the Primary Representative does not need to re-validate the GMVR for this Annual Business Meeting, Public Comment Hearing and Online Governmental Consensus Vote, unless there are updates or changes to be made. August 14, 2014 | 2014 Call for Membership Councils Governing Committees. ICC is accepting applications until Sept. 15, for openings on the Governing Committees of each Membership Council. The Membership Council Governing Committees act as liaisons between the Councils and the ICC Board, providing feedback and recommendations regarding ICC services, helping build and improve relationships with stakeholders, and acting as advocates for areas of professional or technical interest import to the Council Members. August 14, 2014 | Adoption of Most Recent Codes to Mitigate Earthquake Damage Encouraged During Congressional Subcommittee on Research and Technology Hearing. Several expert panelists at the hearing advocated for the use of building codes to save lives and reduce property damage from earthquakes. The first significant lesson is that mitigation efforts, through such measures as improved building codes, make a significant difference in life safety, according to Dr. John R.
