A Chat with the President

Many callers participated in the Fireside Chat held Sept.12, in Minneapolis, Minn.; the site of the Code Council’s 2008 Annual Conference and Final Action Hearings. The third chat hosted by Council Board President Steve Shapiro‚ topics of discussion included the Council’s Final Action Hearings and the code development process; the approval by ANSI of the National Storm Shelter Standard and the Standard for Residential Construction in High Wind Regions; the ICC/NAHB Green Building Standard for Residential Construction, which is being considered by ANSI for approval as a national standard; progress on the ICC Task Force on Hearings; the creation of an sustainable building technology committee; the new ICC-ES Sustainable Attributes Verification and Evaluation program; progress on the proposed Community Building Code Administration Grant Program and Code Official Profile Campaign; progress on disaster communication, mitigation and response; and the restructuring of member benefits and services.
