IMPORTANT: For Illinois UST licensing, you must take the exam at a Promissor testing site, since your photo is required on the score report letter you receive at the conclusion of your exam.

Report system leaks as required.
  0102. System Closure Records (Task) 6%
Review or complete and file required system closure records.

SITE PREPARATION AND LAYOUT (Content Area)

  0201. Property Clearances (Task) 2%
Determine location and necessary clearances to nearby structures, such as buildings, utility and sewer lines.
  0202. Site Soils Observation (Task) 2%
Review soil stability, structure and possible presence of contamination. If required, ensure that site soil resistivity, acidity, moisture content and sulfide content are measured and reported by qualified persons.
 

0203. Site Drainage (Task) 2%
Determine normal and expected high water tables and site drainage characteristics.

03. TANK DECOMMISSIONING AND CLEANING (Content Area)

  0301. System Draining (Task) 4%
Drain product piping into tank, then cap or remove piping. Drain tank product and remove all sludge.
  0302. Waste Liquid Disposal (Task) 2%
Verify that residual product is disposed of properly.
  0303. Tank Purging (Task) 22%
Remove hazardous vapors from tank, venting at appropriate height.
  0304. Tank Inerting (Task) 5%
Reduce the level of oxygen concentration in the tank needed to support combustion.
  0305. Remove Tank and Tank Fixtures (Task) 2%
Excavate around tank and remove drop tube, fill pipe, gauge pipe, submersible pump and other tank fixtures. Remove tank.
  0306. Tank Cleaning, Recycling and/or Reuse (Task) 2%
Verify proper Cleaning, sale and/or reuse of used tanks.
 

0307. In-Place Tank Closure (Task) 3%
Fill tank with inert fill.

04. STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION OF TANKS (Content Area)

  0401. Temporary Tank Storage (Task) 4%
Temporarily store tank at a good location using unabrasive chocks or securing with nylon rope.
 
  0402. Cap Tank Openings (Task) 2%
Verify that all tank holes are plugged or capped, leaving a 1/8" vent hole.
 
 

0403. Tank Labeling and Transportation (Task) 2%
Verify that tank is correctly labeled and proper transportation is used to relocate tanks.

 
05. HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR UST WORKERS (Content Area) 33%
  0501. Control of Vapors and Sources of Ignition (Task) 17%
Identify and control concentrations of flammable or combustible vapors before repairing, decommissioning or tank and pipe tightness testing. Use breathing support devices when necessary. Remove sources of ignition within distances required.
  0502. Excavation Safety (Task) 5%
When working around excavations, verify that excavation walls are sloped properly for the soil conditions, that excavations provide adequate space for workers and means of exit, and that excavations are properly fenced or barricaded for protection of the public.
 
  0503. Grounding and Bonding of Equipment (Task) 2%
Verify grounding of electrical equipment to minimize the possibility of sparks from static electricity or other differences in electrical potential.
 
  0504. Personal Safety Equipment (Task) 6%
Observe safety precautions and use personal safety equipment necessary for the work involved in, including the use of protective clothing, safety line and other recommended equipment.
 
 

0505. Health Safety Regulations (Task) 3%
Review applicable OSHA and state health and safety regulations pertaining to preparing a site safety plan.
