Code Committees
The ICC Code Committees are an instrumental part of
the ICC Code Development Process. There are currently
16 Code Committees, responsible for the review and evaluation
of code change proposals submitted to the 14 International
Codes. The Code Committees for the 2004/2005 Code Development
Cycle will hear the code change proposals at the 2005
Code Development Hearing in Cincinnati, Ohio during the
period of February 22 - March 4, 2005. The application
below includes a list of the Code Committees on page 5.
Current Code Committee members interested in serving are
required to re-apply.
Interpretation Committees
The purpose of the ICC Interpretation Committees is
to provide technical support for adopting jurisdictions
by processing official interpretations for the International
Codes. Committee Interpretations represent the official
position of the ICC but in all cases, the final authority
on matters of interpretation is the code official. There
are currently 12 ICC Interpretation Committees, listed
on page 5 of the application below. Committee travel is
not anticipated - the committee conducts its business
via correspondence. Current Interpretation Committee members
interested in serving are required to reapply
Code Correlation
Committee
The Code Correlation Committee is responsible for evaluating
matters of consistency, coordination and format in the
International Codes. This includes determining matters
of maintenance responsibility of Code Committees and identification
of technical and editorial revisions necessary in the
International Codes. Committee travel is anticipated.
Current Code Correlation Committee members interested
in serving are required to reapply

Ad Hoc Committee
on the Administrative Provisions in the I-Codes
Consistency and coordination of the I-Codes is one of
the cornerstones of the ICC Code Development Process. This
holds true for not only the technical code provisions but
administrative code provisions (ie Chapter 1) in all the
I-Codes as well. The objective of this ad hoc committee
will be to review the administrative provisions in the current
I-Codes and where inconsistencies are identified, to submit
proposed changes to address such inconsistencies. It is
anticipated that this ad hoc committee will complete its
review and development of code changes in time for the 2006/2007
Code Development Cycle (code change deadline tentatively
set for March 24, 2006).
Travel required. Term: completion of ad hoc activities-
through 2006/2007 Cycle. Abbreviation of ICC Committee for
application: AHC-Admin. Staff: Mike Pfeiffer
Ad Hoc Committee on
Terrorism Resistant Buildings
As a result of the attacks of September 11, 2001, the
ICC Code Development Process has seen proposed changes being
submitted to the I-Codes to address terrorism related issues
facing the built environment. The ICC acknowledges that
there are on-going activities, most notably the National
Institute of Science and Technology's (NIST) World Trade
Center investigation, whose findings and recommendations
may be ultimately be processed through the ICC Code Development
Process when completed. In the interim, ICC is taking the
pro-active step in the creation of this ad hoc committee
to develop a response to construction issues generated by
the threat of terrorism.
Travel required. Term: completion of ad hoc activities-
TBD. Abbreviation of ICC Committee for application: AHC-TRB.
Staff: Tom Frost
Code Technology Committee
The ICC Code Development Process is often faced with pressing issues of
new technology as well as other contemporary issues and concepts surrounding
the current code provisions. In order to provide a single forum where such
issues, as assigned by the ICC Board, can be thoroughly and comprehensively
discussed, the Code Technology Committee has been formed. Click
here for a copy of Council Policy #5, approved by the ICC Board, which
governs this new activity. Additionally, the ICC Board has approved six areas
of study/investigation - click here for
a brief overview.
Travel required. Term: 2 years. Abbreviation of ICC Committee
for application: CTC. Staff: Mike Pfeiffer
Councils
The four ICC Councils (Building, Fire, Mechanical/Plumbing
and Standards) are responsible for the implementation and
management of ICC Codes and Standards Development. The Councils
also serve as the appointing authority for the majority
of the ICC Codes and Standards committees. Click
here for a copy of Council Policies #9 and #12, approved
by the ICC Board, which govern the Councils. The number
of available appointments are as follows:
International Building Code Council (IBCC): 3
International Fire Code Council (IFCC): 2
International Mechanical/Plumbing Code Council (IMPCC):
3
International Standards Council (IBCC): 3
Current Council members whose term expires December 31,
2004 and wish to be considered for re-appointment must apply.
Travel required. Term: 3 years, starting January 1, 2005.
Abbreviation of ICC Committee for application: see application.
Staff: Mike Pfeiffer
Disaster Response
Committee
This committee was originally an ad hoc committee established
by the ICC Board. The ICC Board has revised its status from
that of an ad hoc committee to a standing committee, with
the goal being to develop member resources for post natural
disaster response, including: coordination of volunteer
resources; post-event analysis; identification of other
disaster mitigation resources; and assistance with post-disaster
recovery.
Travel required. Term: through completion. Abbreviation
of ICC Committee for application: DRC. Staff: Tom Frost
Hazard Abatement
for Existing Buildings Code Drafting Committee
The ICC Board approved the development of a new code with
the scope including a compilation of current provisions
in the I-Codes which address hazards such as those from
fire as well as the development of new requirements relative
to issues such as hazardous conditions due to structural
issues. This would provide a single source code book for
all disciplines to be used by building owners to bring their
existing building stock up to minimum standards and enforcing
agencies when performing inspections of existing buildings.
The timeline for this activity is to develop the draft and
comprehensive package of coordinating code changes for the
2006/2007 Cycle (code change deadline tentatively set for
March 24, 2006). Code development maintenance would be split
among the current Code Development Committees, based on
subject matter.
Travel required. Term: through completion of 2006/2007
Cycle. Abbreviation of ICC Committee for application: HAEB.
