The International Code Council invites your input and feedback on the development of SMARTcodes, the new, cutting-edge tool that will automate code compliance checking. SMARTcodes allows software applications to automatically check building designs as represented by a building information model (BIM) for compliance with the Council’s International Codes, and federal, state and local amendments to those codes. Software applications using SMARTcodes will be able to provide a code compliance report that identifies and describes areas of noncompliance and visually identify areas of noncompliance in 3-D and 4-D views of the building. SMARTcodes supports the needs of building regulatory agencies, designers, contractors, specifiers and others who need to address building regulatory compliance issues. You may have seen a demonstration of a prototype of this program at the Code Council’s 2007 Annual Conference. To “test drive” SMARTcodes, click here. Design + Construction Strategies (DCS) is assisting the Code Council to determine how to bring SMARTcodes to market, and smooth the progress of the application and use of automated code checking. As a valued Council member, we want to make sure you have an opportunity to participate in the development stage. We appreciate your assistance to help us better understand your plan review process and use of technology. We also want your opinions on how SMARTcodes and automated code checking might ease your work flow and that of the building industry. Please complete our questionnaire. It takes less than 20 minutes and is anonymous. Click here to provide your feedback and input. Thank you for your assistance in guiding this important program. If you experience problems with the survey, please share those with us by email.
