One of the challenging tasks to the Building Department is the assignment of
fair and equitable fees for the services that it provides to the user community.
There are four components needed to ensure that building permit fees are
readily accepted by the user community: necessity, cost-effectiveness, value to
the community and quality of the services provided. Each of these components
must be carefully considered in the establishment of appropriate permit fees.
In this second edition author Michael W. Bouse shares his in-depth
knowledge and first-hand experience with preparing building department budgets.
In a career of more than 30 years Mr. Bouse has held positions as building
inspector, plans examiner, assistant building official and building official. He
also holds a Master’s Degree in business administration and is certified as a
Certified Building Official by ICC.
