The Chapter Advocacy Program will assist chapters in advocating for the International Code Council and its legislative initiatives. The 2008 initiative is to promote and support the enactment of the Community Building Code Administrative Grant Act (CBCAG) introduced by U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Congressman Dennis Moore of Kansas on December 12, 2007. When enacted and funded, the CBCAG will provide competitively evaluated federal grants, locally matched, to jurisdictions who seek to build up or improve their local code administration and enforcement capabilities.
The Chapter program is voluntary and intended to be on-going. Chapters, members and Code Council coalition partners are being asked to unite in this cause so that we may have a stronger voice. Chapters who participate in the program can earn points in the Chapter Rewards Program.
To support the CBCAG and participate in the Chapter Advocacy Program, do the following:
Modify the sample resolution to include your chapter information and reflect local hazards.
Present the CBCAG program information to your membership for discussion.
Seek a motion to vote on adoption of the resolution.
Once adopted, put the sample cover letter on chapter letterhead, include your chapter name and add your contact information to the bottom.
Locate and circle the geographical area covered by your chapter on your state map so that we may forward your resolution to the appropriate Members of Congress.
Send your cover letter, resolution and completed map to the ICC address on the cover letter.
The ICC Government Relations Department acts as a nonpartisan body working with the Federal, state and local governments to educate and inform decision makers on relevant public safety matters. Code Council members should be sure to comply with all applicable Federal, state and local laws, rules and agency regulations when participating in the activities of the Code Council's Government Relations Department.
