The International Code Council Foundation (ICCF) is developing Project H.E.R.O.,
a program designed to assist disabled veterans. When veterans with disabilities
come back from battle, they often need help making their homes accessible. The
program, Project H.E.R.O., which stands for Homes Eliminated of Restrictions and
Obstacles, currently under development, will help veterans to adapt their homes.
By combining the expertise of code officials, building designers, veterans'
service organizations and others, Project H.E.R.O. volunteers will help make homes
accessible, one veteran at a time. ICCF is teaming with the Paralyzed Veterans
of America, the Disabled American Veterans, American Institute of Building Designers
and other organizations to make this project a success. With a little encouragement,
more organizations will be joining soon.
As the program gets underway, the skills and services of ICC Chapters will
be needed. Local volunteers in communities around the nation will sponsor and
lead local teams, coordinate donations and funding, and provide renovations.
