Chapters make donations to family of slain code enforcement
officer
The Ohio Code Enforcement Officials Association and New York State Building
Officials Conference, Rockland County Chapter have each made donations to the
family of an East Texas code enforcement officer who was shot to death while conducting
a routine check of a residence that failed to meet code.
Michael "PeeWee" Walker, 44, was killed as he followed up on a December
complaint about trash in a residential yard, Commerce, Texas, Assistant City Manager
Mike Dunn said. A suspect has been arrested in the case.
Dunn said the city does not send uniformed police officers with inspectors.
He described Walker, a temporary, part-time city employee, as always having a
smile on his face. "He was so excited when we gave him that job. He was on
top of the world. He loved it. He really, really loved it."
