ICC President Frank Hodge recently attended the Building Officials Association
of British Columbia Annual Meeting in Vancouver, where he outlined the vision
and mission of ICC while visiting with members of the BOABC Board and explained
how the organization is working with countries around the world to share information
and offer ICC's support and services.
Frank also spoke on the importance of code officials networking with their
peers, the advantages of testing and certifications, and the benefits of becoming
a member of ICC.

Hodge, Witt attend New Mexico joint conference
President Frank Hodge and CEO James Lee Witt recently attended a joint conference
of the New Mexico Fire Marshals Association and the Southern New Mexico Building
Officials Association. The inaugural event brought together officials from both
the building and fire safety industries and featured courses on mixed occupancies,
fire protection systems, plan reviews and fireworks.
Frank and James Lee both spoke during the conference luncheon and participated
in networking sessions with attendees. Joining Frank and James Lee were ICC Directors
Kevin Scott and New Mexico native Adolf Zubia, Dave Nichols, Regional Government
Relations Manager, and Jim Tidwell, Vice President of Fire Service Activities.
"We were pleased to have 70 participants join us for our inaugural event,"
said Hack Conder, President of New Mexico Fire Marshals Association. "We
were honored to have James Lee Witt, CEO of the International Code Council (ICC)
and Frank P. Hodge, President of the Board of Directors of the ICC, support our
efforts by taking part in our conference, both during networking sessions with
participants and as guest speakers during our luncheon."

NHBOA holds annual business meeting
The New Hampshire Building Officials Association (NHBOA) recently held its
annual business meeting for the purpose of holding its regular monthly meeting,
electing officers, hearing reports of officers and committees, and conducting
general business for the benefit of its members.
This year's guests included Sen. Robert Clegg and ICC Regional Manager Mark
Tebbets. President Mike Santa opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance
and then proceeded with the election of officers.
The governing board presented its proposed slate of candidates for Vice President,
Secretary and two Directors to be filled. Current Secretary Peter W. Hopkins and
current Directors William M. Edney and Everett W. Stone each expressed their desire
to serve another term and were unanimously re-elected. Incumbent Vice President
James T. Smith graciously decided not to seek re-election. He plans to retire
in the upcoming year and did not want to leave a vacancy on the board mid-term.
Richard G. Canuel, who serves as the training and education coordinator for the
association, was elected Vice President. Mark Tebbets of ICC had the honor of
inducting the newly elected officers then went on to speak to the group about
the latest developments at ICC.
The meeting proceeded with Sen. Clegg addressing the membership. He spoke about
the activity of the Building Code Review Committee and efforts to introduce a
bill to adopt the International Residential Code as part of the State Building
Code. Senator Clegg was a proponent of the State Building Code and is chairman
of the Building Code Review Committee.
The meeting concluded with a presentation by members of Aries Engineering,
Inc. promoting the asbestos awareness training program in partnership with the
New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services.

Tift County director named Building Official of Year
Carl Fortson, director of the Tift County Code Administration, was named 2005
Georgia Building Official of the Year by the Building Officials Association of
Georgia during its annual conference held in Augusta. Fortson has worked as a
Tift County building official for 14 years and served as president of the Southwest
Georgia Inspectors Association for four years. ICC congratulates Carl on winning
this esteemed award.

ICC's Darnall swears in WABO, Western Washington officers
The Washington Association of Building Officials' (WABO) Board of Directors were
sworn in by ICC Director John Darnall during its Awards Banquet in Pasco, Washington.
Officers are: (L-R) Tony Baca, President; Gary Schenk, 1st Vice President; Joe
Wizner, 2nd Vice President; and Directors Cindy Peterson, Jon Siu, Dave Saunders,
Dick Bower, Ken Korshaven and Mike Noot. In addition, new officers for the Western
Washington Chapter were sworn in by Mr. Darnall at its Annual Business Meeting
in Seatac, Washington. Officers are: Gary Schenk, President; Steve Widener, Executive
Vice President; Jennifer Burdette, Vice President; Ken Nelsen, Treasurer; Alan
Johannessen, Secretary; and Mike Noot, Past President.
