Region VII
By Dave Diamantes, Chairman Structure Committee
Representatives of ICC Chapters from Region VII (DC, DE, MD, NJ, PA, VA
and WV) met in Hagerstown, Maryland, on Feb. 11 and May 13 to explore the benefits
of establishing a regional organization. Representatives from Maryland, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania and Virginia attended. The assembled body approved the following:
Region VII will be a coalition made up of the existing chapters within
the Mid-Atlantic states as well as ICC members who reside in DC, DE, MD, NJ, PA,
VA and WV and who are not affiliated with a chapter.
Each state and the District of Columbia may appoint 4 members to serve on
a board. Terms are for one year, effective the date of ICC recognition by the
ICC Board of Directors. Method of selection is the responsibility of the states.
A Chairman will be appointed from among the representatives of the member
states, by that state in alphabetical orderDE, DC, MD, NJ, VA, WV. Since
Delaware and DC have not participated up to this point, Maryland will appoint
the first Chairman. His term is one year, effective the date Region VII
is recognized by the ICC Board of Directors.
The first order of business for the Region VII board is to develop
bylaws and establish committees.
A Code Change Committee was also formed at the meeting in February. They developed
a proposal to put forth proposed code changes online to seek input or support
from the region. Methods to police the system were discussed and will have to
be researched and implemented.
An Education Committee was formed at the first meeting, they reported on methods
of providing joint and (or) regional training opportunities. Committee work will
become more formal after the board is selected and permanent committees are appointed.
ICC Region V
By Roger Westfall, President
Region V (KY, IN, MI, OH) was the first ICC Regional Chapter to organize
and achieve chapter status in 2004. This historic event took place at the ICC
Annual Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, following 12 months of planning.
The regional concept of Chapter membership has been a very rewarding endeavor
as directors from our four states meet regularly to discuss and share information
dealing with ways to improve the leadership in our jurisdictional areas. The experiences
and knowledge we gain at the regional level have proven to be a valuable asset
to our local chapters.
On June 21, the Region V Board of Directors met at the Ohio Board of
Building Standards offices in Columbus, Ohio, to conduct business for upcoming
events.
The 2005 International Code Council Annual Conference in Detroit, Michigan,
on Sept. 25Oct. 2 will be a very important event for Region V membership.
Due to the fact the conference is held in our region, we anticipate a record number
of delegates to attend. Please monitor the ICC Regional bulletin board on the
web for dates, times, and locations of events scheduled for our members.
Lastly, Region V is honored to have two qualified candidates seeking
the positions on the ICC Board of Directors to be voted upon at the 2005 Conference.
The candidates endorsed by Region V are Mark Stimac, C.B.O. with the City
of Troy, Michigan, and Billy Phillips with the Ohio Board of Building Standards
in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. These gentlemen will be seeking to fill two of the five
vacant positions on the Board of Directors.
