Program offers chapters more training
opportunities
Licensed contractors and certified inspectors are essential
to protecting the public's health, safety, and welfare. One
of the keys to ensuring quality contractors and inspectors
is through training and education, and ICC can make those
training and education opportunities more affordable through
the Chapter Training Incentive Program (CTIP).
Funding for CTIP is provided through examination fees. Contractor
candidates seeking to be licensed in states with chapters
participating in the CTIP are charged a small assessment fee
in addition to the fee charged for testing. ICC returns those
assessment fees to the chapter.
Although the assessment fee charged candidates is small,
it adds up for chapters. For example, ICC Vice President of
Certification & Licensure Dave Nelson recently
presented Building Officials Association of Mississippi
President Bill Foshee with a check for $3,360, which represents
six months testing. Currently, six ICC chapters in Texas,
the Building Officials Association of Mississippi and
the Building Officials Association of Louisiana participate
in the CTIP.
If you are aware of a chapter that is interested in participating
in the CTIP, or if you would just like more information on
the program, contact ICC's Manager of Contractor Examination
Services at extension 5242.
