Chapter presidents and officers attended the Chapter Presidents'
Breakfast on Monday of this year's Annual Conference in Detroit.
ICC Board President Frank Hodge recognized the 16 new
chapters approved over the past year and their leadership
in attendance at the breakfast. COO Rick Weiland (left)
addressed the group on behalf of CEO James Lee Witt,
who arrived late to the conference because of his work in
the hurricane-stricken areas of the Gulf Coast. Member Programs
Senior Vice President Terry Leppellere presented the
new Chapter Rewards Program and asked for input in the coming
months. The new program allows current benefits to continue
while offering additional rewards for more active chapters.
Chapter Leader Workshop
Chapter members attended the 2005 Chapter Leadership program
entitled "Newsletters 101." The presentation was
made by experts from ICC's award-winning Periodicals Department:
Sebastian Kunnappilly, Editor; Trey Hughes,
Manager of Periodicals; and Gregory Layne, Managing
Editor. They presented the basics of compiling, editing and
publishing a chapter newsletter. Valuable tips and traps for
both print and electronic newsletters were shared by the audience.
Several chapter newsletters and magazines were featured as
models including "Code Talk" by the Code Administrators
Association of Kentucky, "Indiana Building Review"
from the Indiana Association of Building Officials
and the Minnesota Building Permit Technicians Association
newsletter. A PowerPoint presentation handout is available
to those who were not able to attend this session by contacting
Chapter Programs Coordinator, at 1-888-ICC-SAFE (422-7233),

Comerford wins new Harley
Kerry Comerford, Assistant Building Official for Southfield,
Michigan, and Past President of Oakland County Building
Officials Association, had the winning ticket for the
new Harley Davidson motorcycle that was given away during
this year's conference. Proceeds from the event benefited
the AIA-ICC Bob Fowler Memorial Scholarship Fund, which raised
more than $21,000. ICC thanks all the chapters who assisted
by selling and purchasing raffle tickets.
Project H.E.R.O.
Retired General Wesley Clark (right) gave the keynote address
during the conference's General Assembly Luncheon. Clark discussed
his affiliation with the International Code Council Foundation's
Project H.E.R.O (Homes Eliminated of Restrictions and Obstacles),
which will help veterans adapt to their homes upon return
from duty. The Foundation is teaming with the American Institute
of Architects, the American Institute of Building Designers,
the Disabled American Veterans, the Paralyzed Veterans of
America and other organizations on Project H.E.R.O. To learn

the skills necessary for them to enter the construction industry.
More than $3,500 was pledged during the auction. ICC thanks
all the chapters who supported the event including Colorado
Association of Permit Technicians, Metropolitan Kansas City
