Code Council distributes wildfire preparedness kits on Capitol Hill
Wildland Programs Director Dan Bailey delivers a wildfire preparedness kit to the office of Senator Patty Murray of Washington state.
While firefighters worked to gain control of wildfires in California, the International Code Council headed to Capitol Hill. Code Council Government Relations staff delivered wildfire preparedness kits to 120 Congressional offices representing 12 states, including Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
In addition to the wildfire preparedness kits, which contained a copy of the 2006 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code, the Code Council distributed a document summarizing the findings of the National Blue Ribbon Panel on the Wildland Urban Interface. That same week, the panel, composed of more than 40 organizations that address wildland-urban interface fire issues at the national, federal, state and local levels, met in Washington, D.C. to assess how to best integrate the myriad of current U.S. wildland-urban interface programs. It will report its findings to federal agencies and make recommendations to better integrate current national, state and local wildfire policies.
