Major Jurisdiction Committee

Recognizing the unique needs and issues of building safety and fire prevention in large cities, counties and states, the ICC Board of Directors has approved the creation of a Major Jurisdictions Committee. The committee is a collaboration of members representing diverse communities who have specific geographical and demographic needs that represent urban construction dynamics impacting the built environment.

The Major Jurisdiction Committee's top objectives are developing public relations among jurisdictions, establishing a code review committee to address administrative matters unique to large jurisdictional areas, offering leadership resources to jurisdictions, addressing best practices for the management of large building departments and coordinating interdepartmental relationships among building, fire, assessor and zoning departments.

The nine-member committee will be twice yearly, during the Annual Conference and Final Action Code Hearings. Other meetings will be held via conference call if necessary. Membership is limited to state representatives, members representing the capital cities of each state, members from the two largest jurisdictions from each state in addition to the capital cities and representatives from communities with a population of one million or more.
