Fireside Chat History
2006-07 International Code Council
Board President Wally Bailey held the first in a series of
Fireside Chats on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. This 90-minute
teleconference, which originated from Baileys office
in Fort Smith, Arkansas, was part of an on-going
effort to improve communications with Code Council members and stakeholders.
It allowed listeners to ask questions and participate in the
discussion. 2007-08 Board President Steve Shaprio will be continuing the tradition.
The concept of fireside chats dates back more
than 70 years, when President Franklin Roosevelts radio
broadcasts became a staple in American homes during the Depression
and World War II. FDRs fireside chats gave people a
chance to hear directly from the President himself on important
issues of the day.
