Solid Support Materials

Based on the 2006 IBC and the American Concrete Institute’s 318-05, the Concrete Manual is a great tool for anyone involved with concrete in the field, and includes full text on CD. The Concrete Manual Study Companion makes preparing for concrete-related exams much easier.
The Masonry Institute of America’s (MIA) 2006 Masonry Codes and Specifications focuses on all areas of masonry construction and is great for professionals who deal with masonry—whether engineering, contracting or inspection-related.
MIA’s 2006 Masonry Design Manual, 4th Edition, helps design professionals understand materials and construction processes with respect to their masonry designs.
ICC and the Mason Contractor’s Association of America offer online masonry education courses on many topics.

Building Safety on the Hill
During Building Safety Week, May 6–12, the Code Council Board of Directors, the Government Relations Advisory Committee and ICC Chapter leaders will meet with members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives to discuss Council legislative priorities on behalf of our members and stakeholders. The Council’s delegation of Chapter leaders includes representatives from California Building Officials—ICC's 2006 Chapter of the Year—and from the North Texas Chapter, Idaho Association of Building Officials, Association of Minnesota Building Officials and Heart of America Chapter—ICC's 2006 Merit Award winners.

Send Legislators a Message of Support
The Code Council’s single priority in communicating with Congress during this year's Building Safety Week is creating support for a community grant program devoted to supporting the needs of local building and fire code administration. Send your own message to Congress in support of the Council’s proposal and assist the Capitol Hill delegation during their Building Safety Week visits with Congress.

Already Planning Your Next Chapter Meeting?
Before inviting an ICC Board member or executive staff to your next chapter meeting, did you know that a procedure is already in place to help you make that invitation? By submitting a Chapter Meeting Request Form you can be assured a chapter staff member will personally address your request and respond in a timely manner.
With over 300 ICC chapters, please submit your form at least 60–90 days prior to your meeting to reduce the possibility of scheduling conflicts. You will receive confirmation once your form is received and you will receive written confirmation regarding who is attending, when they are attending and the tasks they will perform.

Chapters Making A Difference
The Code Council thanks the Northwest Building Officials & Code Administrators of Illinois and the Suburban Building Officials Conference for their recent donations to Project H.E.R.O. Would your chapter like to make a donation toward global safety?

The Importance of ICC Permit Technician Chapters
The permit technician classification is a valuable and unique position generally described as a support position for technical staff within a governmental jurisdiction. These positions, while members of the ICC family of certified groups, have a special need for specific training, networking and support from other permit technicians within their local jurisdiction, state and existing permit technician chapters nationwide. One of the most effective ways to accomplish this invaluable training and networking is to form a state or regional ICC permit technician chapter.
