While in Honolulu to address the attendees of the American Institute of Architects/Construction Specifications Institute 2007 Pacific Building Code Trade Expo, Code Council CEO Rick Weiland and Board President Steve Shapiro took time to visit the Hawaii Association of County Building Officials (HACBO). Approved for chapter status during the 2007 Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada, HACBO is the Council's first chapter in Hawaii. Weiland and Shapiro presented the chapter with a plaque and banner to welcome them to the Council, as well as certificates of appreciation to the state of Hawaii and Honolulu City and County for their efforts to have the International Codes adopted statewide, and for supporting the creation of a State Building Code Council.
San Diego Chapter Helps Retrofit Veteran’s Home
Members of the San Diego Chapter teamed up the California Building Officials (CALBO) Foundation and others to make much-needed improvements to the home of a disabled Iraq war veteran.
Tim Jeffers, a 24-year-old Marine who lost both legs above the knee, an eye and a finger when he was wounded in Iraq, switches between prosthetic limbs and a wheelchair. To make his two-bedroom condo more accessible, the teams removed old carpet and installed laminated floors and baseboards, a retrofitted shower nozzle and a ramp outside the front door.
