Students Honored for DAWG HAUS
The Building
Officials & Inspectors Association of Volusia &
Flagler Counties, along with Code Council Government
Relations Regional Manager Phil McMahan met with students
from Deland High School's Future Builders of America Club
on January 31 for a presentation ceremony. The students
partnered with the Federal Emergency Management Agency
to construct a dog-house-sized model of storm-resistant
home. The wood-framed "DAWG HAUS" (Disaster
Avoidance With Good Home Attenuating-Unionization System)
will be on display at natural disaster conventions, home
improvement centers and other public locations across
the state of Florida. The chapter honored the students
for their efforts in educating the public in proper construction
techniques for safer structures by presenting them with
a Community Outreach Award, the first presented to any
organization by Volusia/Flagler BOIA.
