Chapter representatives attending this year's Annual
Conference in Orlando participated in a number of events,
including the Chapter President's Breakfast and the Chapter
Leadership Program. Members participated in the Silent Auction
that benefited a local charity, and ICC Regions held open
meetings on Tuesday evening.
Chapter President's Breakfast
Chapter presidents and
officers enjoyed breakfast and presentations at this year's
Chapter Presidents' Breakfast.
Mike Centineo from the City of New Orleans
spoke on putting together an electronic system that inspected
125,000 buildings in 10 weeks following Hurricane Katrina,
amounting to a permit being issued every minute and 42
seconds. He also stressed the importance of pre-planning
and off-site storage of systems.
Louisiana State Fire Marshal Henry Fry
gave a moving report on watching as the City of New Orleans
went underwater and helping individuals who were trapped
in their homes while firefighter and other emergency personnel
support was stretched thin.
Over 200 Chapter presidents and officers attended the Chapter
Presidents' Breakfast on Monday, September 18. ICC Board President
Henry Green recognized the 17 new chapters approved this year
and their leadership in attendance at the breakfast. President
Green also announced the 2006 Chapter
of the Year and four Chapter
Merit Award winners. Mike Centineo from the City of New
Orleans and Louisiana State Fire Marshal Henry Fry spoke to
the group about their experiences in response to and recovery
from Hurricane Katrina.
Chapter Leadership Program
On Tuesday afternoon, chapter members attended the 2006 Chapter
Leadership program "Build Your Own Website." The
presentation was made by Barb Cary, ICC's Internet Content
Coordinator. Barb presented the basics of how to start designing
a website by detailing site objectives, features and maintenance.
The presentation included some suggested vendors and highlighted
several chapter websites. At the end of the presentation,
a question and answer session was beneficial to everyone as
attendees shared their experiences with one another. A handout
is available to those who were not able to attend this session
by contacting Patty Bond,
Chapter Programs Coordinator, at 1-888-ICC-SAFE (422-7233),
ext. 7205.

success. Unusual items such as artwork, a custom poker chip
set, golf packages and specialty gift baskets were donated
by various groups, organizations and chapters to benefit Habitat
for Humanity-Orlando.
