Donald "Mickey" Arp of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
"This is the greatest honor that I have received,"
Arp told conference delegates. "Thank you."
Donald "Mickey" Arp, a member of the Tennessee
Building Officials Association, received the Code Official
of the Year Award at ICC's Annual Conference, honoring his
work to further the cause of building safety. Arp has 42 years
of service in the plumbing and code enforcement industries,
first learning the trade in 1964 through the apprentice plumbers
program at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #43. He
began his career with the City of Chattanooga almost 20 years
ago, and oversees all plumbing, gas, and mechanical permitting
and installations in the city.
For 20 years, Mickey has sacrificed his personal time to
support the apprentice program, the Tennessee Valley Authority
and his local union. Mickey is also a charter member of the
Tennessee Plumbing and Mechanical Inspector's Association,
where he has taught code classes for contractors, inspectors
and tradespersons. He is active in his community, supporting
a program for at-risk kids called "Youth Build Chattanooga."
The organization takes high school drop-outs and enrolls them
in a nine-month program to earn their GED and learn a trade.
Mickey teaches several classes in plumbing, licensing laws
and regulations, and permitting laws and regulations. Mickey
tirelessly demonstrates his professional abilities to his
peers by his daily commitment to the code profession. He consistently
furthers the cause of building safety in the City of Chattanooga
and requests that his staff do the same. Last year, Mickey
won the Low Eastern Chapter of Tennessee Building Officials
Association's Code Official of the Year award.
Congratulations, Mickey!
