ICC Awards Chapter
and Chapter Member for Community Service
Awards Committee Chairman Ed Berkel
presents an ICC Community Service Award to Jill Gray,
co-founder of the North Central Texas Permit Technician
Chapter of ICC.
Jill Gray, Permit Technician for City of Farmer's Branch,
Texas, was presented with one of two Community Service Awards
at this year's Annual Conference in Orlando. Jill is the co-founder
of the North Central Texas Permit Technician Chapter,
who earned ICC local chapter status in May 2004. Since the
chapter formed, it has continued to grow and Jill spearheads
many community service projects. Under her leadership, the
chapter has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, plus made
cash donations to the organization. It also recently collected
items for the Red Cross and local food pantries, which helped
Hurricane Katrina victims that relocated to the area. Jill
also volunteers with a local organization called the SoupMobile,
helping to deliver food to homeless people in the Dallas area.
She's currently working on a fundraiser with her chapter to
gather money, blankets and food to donate to the SoupMobile
during the fall and winter.
Awards Committee Chairman Ed Berkel
presents an ICC Community Service Award to Gary Schenk
of the Washington Association of Building Officials
chapter.
The second ICC Community Service Award was presented to the
Washington Association of Building Officials (WABO).
The chapter coordinated with the state of Washington to provide
assistance to the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Katrina.
Two disaster-response teams were deployed to Louisiana and
Mississippi through the Federal Emergency Management Aid Compact
to assist in the inspection and evaluation of homes and businesses.
WABO received a special proclamation from Washington Governor
Christine O. Gregoire for its efforts. After this learning
experience, WABO established its own emergency disaster-response
committee in an effort to create a statewide response team
and establish a certification process for emergency building
responders. At its Fall Quarterly Business Meeting, WABO hosted
a press conference on the disaster-response team's response
to Katrina, which resulted in a news article entitled "Silent
Defenders," published by The Columbian in December 2005.
Congratulations to both on winning these prestigious awards!
