Chris Colligan is shown in this State
of Michigan photo taken at the ICC Annual Conference shortly
before his death. Chris is in the back row, second from
the right, wearing a blue and white Hawaiian shirt. He
is standing between Wayne Jewell, City of Southfield,
Michigan, and his good friend John Heckaman from Meridian
Township, Michigan.
Chris Colligan, loving husband and father, ICC member, and
Inspector/Building Official for the City of Mason, Michigan,
tragically lost his life after returning home from his first
ICC Annual Conference, when he stopped to help a stranded
motorist. He leaves behind his wife, Joan, and four daughters,
ages 4-12.
Friend and co-worker Marty Coburn, City Administrator from
the City of Mason, described him as a "man's man"
who was caring and generous. "He was a man who knew how
to treat and grow girls." Marty called it "a rare
trait for a manly guy." He said, "His family is
what he was really about."
Chris also worked with John Heckaman, Chief Building Official
for Meridian Township, for four years before going to Mason
one year ago. John and Chris had just attended the ICC Annual
Conference together. John said about Chris, "We enjoyed
talking almost daily. He loved all his girls at home, his
neighbors, close friends and his friends at the city. Chris
loved to ride his new motorcycle. He had just finished his
first season in the Tuesday Golf League and enjoyed smoking
cigars and hanging out with friends."
ICC extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends
of Chris Colligan. He will be missed.
