Service Award to Charles Miller (middle).
The St. Louis Professional Chapter of ICC presented
its 2006 Service Award to Charles E. Miller on September 6.
Miller received this award in recognition of his work in life
safety, code enforcement and code development for more than
46 years.
Miller served as Fire Marshal for the City of Clayton and
later served as Fire Chief. He was very active for many years
with the Building Officials and Code Administrators International
(BOCA). One of his first accomplishments was to have a major
hand in developing BOCA's first Fire Code. He also served
six years on BOCA's Board of Directors. After retiring from
Clayton, he joined the St. Louis County Department of Public
Works where one of his main responsibilities was to keep the
St. Louis County codes current. In doing this job, he kept
all parties apprised of the various efforts to revise the
codes. It was this effort that helped the St. Louis Professional
Chapter work toward the goal of adopting the International
Codes unamended. The professionalism shown by Miller has earned
him the reputation of being one of the most respected code
officials in the St. Louis area.
