Three new code-discipline-specific committees identify opportunities to improve and enhance a particular International Code‚ or code sections‚ by submitting proposed code changes‚ modifications and public comments‚ and by participating in the Code Development process. The application deadline is tomorrow.

Special Inspection
Solution for Chapters

The International Accreditation Service (IAS) can show your chapter how to use the IAS Special Inspection Agency Accreditation Program to approve agencies that work in your jurisdiction or region. The program operates at no cost for the chapter or building departments that participate, and helps solve many of the challenges in meeting the special inspection requirements in Chapter 17 of International Building Code.

Chapter Advocacy Program to Launch
Help Your Community and Earn Chapter Rewards Points

Information on the new Chapter Advocacy Program will soon be on its way to chapters. The program will position Chapters to support the International Code Council’s legislative initiatives. The primary 2008 initiative is the enactment of the Community Building Code Administrative Grant Act (CBCAG)‚ which was introduced in December by U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and U.S. Representative Dennis Moore of Kansas. If enacted and funded‚ the CBCAG Act will provide competitively evaluated federal grants‚ locally matched‚ to local governments that seek to improve local code administration and enforcement to provide a higher level of public safety. Are You Eligible to Vote?
 
The agenda for the upcoming Code Development Hearings is available‚ but are you qualified to vote? All Code Council members need to review their membership records to ensure they can obtain voting credentials at the 2008 Codes Forum in Palm Springs, California. Eligible voting members can vote on assembly motions‚ which if approved‚ are automatically placed on the agenda for consideration at the Final Action Hearings in Minneapolis‚ Minnesota. But don’t delay. Modifications to voting records must be received 10 days prior to the start of a public hearing.

Members Forums Available
Two Members Forums are scheduled for February 20 and February 22 during the 2008 Codes Forum. Discussions regarding how the Code Council currently conducts code change hearings and what, if anything‚ might be done to improve the process will be addressed. Continue reading here.
 
New Board Liaisons Assigned
Cross-Pollination Will Enhance Chapters’ Experience
Following elections for the 2007-2008 Board of Directors‚ Code Council Board President Steve Shapiro seized the opportunity for both the Board and membership to gain greater exposure to one another by assigning new primary Board liaisons for each chapter. The new Board liaisons will cover ICC Chapters outside their areas‚ allowing membership to gain exposure to Board members they may never see or talk to‚ bringing a fresh perspective from a different part of the country‚ and helping to further unify Code Council membership. Reintroduce Your Chapter
Promote Building Safety Week in Your Community
It’s a new year—the perfect time for your chapter to start planning Building Safety Week (BSW) activities. Set for the week of May 5-11‚ this year’s theme is “Building Safety: Where You Live, Work and Play” and the Code Council offers a number of tools to help you promote it. Reintroduce your chapter to the community it serves and share information about the importance of building safety and fire prevention codes. Get inspired.
 
A New Look for Chapter Logos
By now‚ all chapter presidents should have received a letter announcing the new voluntary chapter logo benefit and complimentary banner program. In addition‚ all presidents have been sent an email containing their chapter's new unique logo to review and approve. If you wish to participate in this new benefit and receive your complimentary banner‚ you must reply to the email. Click here for details.
 
Protect Your Benefits
Don’t Let Your Chapter Get Left Out
 
To ensure your chapter receives full benefits such as the annual Chapter Education Benefit day with complimentary training materials‚ Annual Conference registration and many other perks‚ submit your 2008 Annual Report. Chapters are required to submit an Annual Report each year. Forms will be mailed to each Chapter President and Secretary of record in March. Submit your report.
New Benefit for Regional Chapters
The Code Council realizes that Regional Chapter-level communication is not an easy task‚ especially when trying to reach consensus across multiple states and among multiple chapters. With that in mind‚ the Council is offering free conference calling services to its Regional Chapters. Continue reading here.

We Want to Reward You for Your Hard Work
The Code Council wants to reward chapters for their activities through its Chapter Rewards Program. Since 2006‚ more than 4‚000 points have been awarded to 50 chapters for such popular rewards as certificates toward the purchase of Council publications and training days. If you’ve never participated‚ now’s your chance. Review your chapter’s activities for the 2007 calendar year to see if they qualify for points that can be redeemed for additional benefits. Submit your application.
 
Raising Awareness of Permit Techs

Last year‚ the Code Council Board created an Ad Hoc Permit Technicians Committee to review the needs of permit technicians and how the Council can better serve them. The committee held its first face-to-face meeting recently in St. Louis‚ Missouri. Continue reading here.
