Four organizations were granted chapter status by the Code Council's Board of Directors at the 2007 Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada. Two associations are newly formed groups of diverse officials from Oregon and Georgia. The third is the eighth group to be granted regional chapter status, and the last association is the first recognized chapter from the island state of Hawaii. Check out our newest Chapters. |

BOAF Named Chapter of the Year |
The 2007 ICC Chapter of the Year Award was presented to the Building Officials Association of Florida (BOAF) during the Code Council Annual Conference in Reno, Nevada. BOAF was honored for consistently supporting efforts to increase public awareness for building codes and building safety; participating in state commissions that oversee codes, contractor licensing and inspector licensing; holding several education programs every year; and actively engaging in the code development process. With a total membership close to 2,000, BOAF has experienced a banner year. |

Merit Awards are given annually to chapters that distinguish themselves through activities that demonstrate the goals and objectives of the Code Council. The three chapters receiving 2007 Merit Awards—the Heart of America Chapter, Virginia Building and Code Officials Association and Washington Association of Building Officials—went above and beyond in supporting efforts for building codes and building safety. Council Elects Board Officers, Directors |
Steven Shapiro, Director of Codes Compliance for the City of Hampton, Virginia, was elected President of the International Code Council Board of Directors during the Annual Business Meeting of the 2007 Annual Conference. Adolf Zubia, Fire Chief for the City of Las Cruces, New Mexico, was elected Vice President. Ronald L. Lynn, Building Official and Director of Development Services for Clark County, Nevada, was elected Secretary/Treasurer. Voting members also elected five Directors to serve on the Board. |

Annual Conference Wrap-Up |

New Chapter Manual Leads the Way |
|
Chapter members who attended the 2007 Chapter Leadership program in Reno got a first glimpse of the Council's new electronic "Chapter Leader Manual." Free to all chapters, the manual is filled with helpful tips and website links, addresses typical chapter issues, and can assist chapter leaders with day-to-day tasks. It helps keep chapters in touch with Code Council organizational activities, and contains customizable forms to suit each chapter's needs. Each attendee received a CD of the manual and it's now available online. |

A New Look for Chapter Logos |

The Code Council is in the process of refreshing its "brand" to promote awareness of the Council and its role in contributing to public safety. Your brand is your reputation and delivers a clear and consistent message, helps you stand out, and builds customer loyalty. Permit Techs Meet in Reno |

The Code Council Board recently created an Ad Hoc Permit Technicians Committee in order to review the needs of permit technicians and how the Council can better serve them. The committee will focus on ways to increase membership among permit technicians, promote more permit technician chapters and review current certification to determine if it meets the needs of permit technicians. Look for a "Permit Tech Corner" in the next issue of Chapter eNews that will include testimonials and other information. |

Grant Gains Support on the Hill |

Chapter leaders who went with ICC staff to the U.S. capitol to discuss draft legislation for the CBCAG program receive U.S. flags that flew above the Capitol Building in their chapter's honor. |
|
The Code Council's Community Building Code Administrative Grant (CBCAG) program has earned serious attention since the Council's visit to Capitol Hill in May. Recently, U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and U.S. House Representative Dennis Moore of Kansas agreed to sponsor draft legislation for the CBCAG and are coordinating development of final bill language. The legislation is projected for introduction this fall. Read more on the Council's plans to build grassroots support for the passage of the legislation. |

Coalition to Promote Code Officials |

Committed to creating awareness on how code officials help make everyday life safer, the national "Raise the Profile" Coalition is educating the public, industry and elected officials about the critical role code officials play in improving the level of safety in the built environment.
