Change to ICC Member Logins

The Code Council is launching a new software system, AVECTRA, to improve efficiency in your data management. The new system will change the look of the Membership and Certification login pages, and includes a new layer of security for members. The new login page will require the normal customer/member number and zipcode for the first visit only, and a new username and password will need to be set for future use. The new system will include a challenge system in case you forget your password.

Council Delivers Wildfire Kits to the Hill

 

Code Council Wildland Programs Director Dan Bailey delivers a wildfire preparedness kit to the office of Senator Patty Murray of Washington state.

 
While firefighters worked to gain control of wildfires in California, the International Code Council headed to Capitol Hill where Government Relations staff delivered wildfire preparedness kits to 120 Congressional offices representing 12 states. The kits contained a copy of the 2006 International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and a document summarizing the findings of the National Blue Ribbon Panel on the Wildland-Urban Interface.
 
Codes Saved Homes

The Code Council reached out to media making its wildfire experts available during the recent fires in California. One result was an Associated Press story that quoted a Council wildfire expert that ran in newspapers, TV and radio stations nationwide and on hundreds of websites. World Standards Day Celebrated

The Code Council was a participant in the 2007 World Standards Day celebration held in Washington, D.C. The theme for this year's event was Standards and the Global Village. The Council is a sponsor of the annual event and a member of the U.S. World Standards Day Planning Committee.
 

Students Make Solar Sense in D.C.

 
 
Tom Meyers, Vice Chair of the IRC Building and Energy Committee, heads inspections for the Solar Decathlon.
Twenty teams from universities in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Germany and Spain, constructed solar houses on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., during this year’s Solar Decathlon. Teams designed, built and operated livable, energy-efficient and completely solar-powered houses. Architecture and engineering students referenced the International Residential Code and the International Building Code for the 800-square-foot houses. Check out the photo gallery.
 

First School District Earns Accreditation

The Building Department of the Palm Beach County School District in Florida is the first school district in the nation to earn national Building Department Accreditation by the International Accreditation Service (IAS). The accreditation verifies that the district’s building department is professionally qualified to provide a high standard of public safety. Continue reading here.
 

Codes Donated to Future Homebuilders

Hall County Home Builders Association President Mike Hollimon felt it was important that Future Home Builders Association students in Hall County, Georgia, have access to the codes they learn about in their high school construction classes, and the Code Council agreed by donating codes to seven high schools in the county. Student Need Triggers Code Donation

In Romania, the average wage is only $200 USD per month and students at the Technical University of Civil Engineering in Bucharest, Romania can’t afford to purchase items they need. The university was in need of materials for training future architects and engineers, and the Code Council donated the 2003 International Codes on CD—The Complete Collection to the university.

Council, ASTM Discuss Systems

Representatives from ASTM International, Colombia’s Institute of Technical Norms (ICONTEC) and the Gulf Cooperation Council visited the Code Council’s Headquarters office to discuss the U.S. building regulatory system and the Council’s programs. Attending the meeting were the Code Council’s Sylvana Ricciarini; ASTM International Director of Public Policy and International Trade Kevin Cummins; Daniel Trillos from ICONTEC; and Mohammed A.M. Al Dablan of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

 

Georgia Asks for Help in Adapting Code

Meeting Expands on Building Policies

Code Council staff met with representatives from the Institute of Technical Information for Building Materials Industry of China and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to discuss building code proposals to improve energy efficiency.
