Is
your home summer friendly?
ICC urges residents to take the time to check outdoor areas for potential
safety hazards during summer. Proper inspections of porches, decks and
balconies can help keep your family and friends safe. Grilling on or
near combustible areas is a fire hazard. It not only puts your family
and visitors at risk, but, especially in condos and apartment buildings,
can put your
neighbors in danger as well.
Because pools can be attractive—and dangerous—to young children, in-ground
and above-ground pools should be surrounded by a fence or other barriers.

International
collaboration results
in fire engineering guidelines
Fire
engineering professionals will gain an international perspective with
a new technical guide. International Fire Engineering Guidelines
incorporates viewpoints on the application of fire safety engineering
and the role it plays in the regulatory systems of Australia, New Zealand,
Canada and the United States.
Development of the guide was an international group effort that included
fire engineering experts from the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB),
the Canadian Codes Centre of the National Research Council (NRC), New
Zealand's Department of Building and Housing (DBH), and ICC.

firefighter safety.
As of May 1, there have been 50 line-of-duty firefighter deaths this
year, 10 more than at the same time last year. For more information
