Are
You up to Speed on the I-Codes?
The IBC® is used by nearly
20,000 jurisdictions, the IRC® by more than 16,000 and the IFC® by more
than 12,000 jurisdictions. Discover
the jurisdictions that are safeguarding residents and businesses and
guiding construction and renovations using the I-Codes.
I-Codes
Take Root in Hurricane-Ravaged State
 |
|
Mississippi
Governor Haley Barbour’s Recovery
Expo in Biloxi featured sessions on local recovery and hurricane
preparedness efforts, community outreach, and town hall meetings.
ICC conducted two I-Code presentations and had an exhibit booth.
|
|
In its first-ever meeting,
the new Mississippi Building Codes Council adopted
the 2003 IBC® and IRC® for the state. The Council's action does not
require local jurisdictions to adopt building codes, but ensures that they
will use the I-Codes when they do. The move also requires that coastal homes
and businesses be built to withstand higher winds than inland areas.
Accessibility
Training for Construction Professionals
Education on building
codes is pivotal in removing the unnecessary daily challenges of people
with disabilities, allowing critical access to jobs and independent living.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and ICC are joining with the
United Spinal Association to offer an accessibility
training program geared toward architects, contractors and building
managers in Las Vegas. The two-day program will focus on commercial and
residential accessibility requirements, with a discount for attending
both sessions.

products is being offered in Pasadena, California, through the ICC Evaluation
Service and the International Accreditation Service. The 2006
Annual Meeting of the World Federation of Technical Assessment Organizations
will bring together code officials, manufacturers, consultants, testing
laboratories and inspection agencies from 21 countries—all seeking to
weigh in on minimizing building product trade barriers.
ICC
Gets Green Light on NCEGP Support
Solidifing interest in a National
Code Enforcement Grant Program, ICC Board President Henry Green met
with congressional offices in late July to further explore the concept.
Focusing on the benefits and purpose of the program, how to formulate
the program in federal legislation, and details on competitive grant support
for local code enforcement programs, response was positive for a legislative
proposal to be introduced in the 110th Congress.
 |
|
Green
(left) met with Alaska Senator Ted Stevens in May to discuss ICC's
legislative priorities.

Great
Opportunities to Get More Involved
