employees and families of building and fire departments impacted by the
disaster.
“While the members of our building and fire departments labor to restore
their jurisdictions on the U.S. Gulf Coast, their families are struggling
to restore their way of lives,” said ICCF President Paul Myers. “We can
them help them help themselves by contributing to this fund.”

codes will be a key component of the recovery process. Louisiana uses
the International Building and Mechanical Codes statewide,
and many jurisdictions have adopted the International Residential Code.

A
Note to Members of the International
Code Council
A
resolution that will be considered this month during the ICC Annual Business
Meeting could cost more than $800,000 to implement. The proposal to move
to three, 12-month code development cycles from the current two, 18-month
cycles can be expected to also reduce review time available to participants,
increase commentary production time and restrict staff resources available
for other technical support activities—essentially recreating the problems
that led to the creation of the 18-month cycle.

Students
should add fire safety to their
campus to-do lists
As
college students settle into their dorms or apartments, unpack and purchase
textbooks, they should add another important item to their to-do lists:
fire safety.
“Building safety and fire prevention officials can inspect the dorm or
apartment building to make sure it has the right number of emergency exits
and is equipped with fire alarms and smoke detectors, but they are not
in the room at 3:00 on a Saturday morning,” said ICC CEO James Lee Witt.
“Students need to take an active role in fire safety.”
