VA Seeks Inspectors
for SAH Projects

The Veterans Administration (VA) is seeking individuals to perform inspections for compliance with Special Adapted Housing (SAH) requirements on residential construction projects for disabled veterans. Inspectors are needed in all areas of the state of Ohio. Application fees range from $150-$200 with an additional $20 fee available depending on the locations of the inspections. FDNY Seeks Comments on New Code
Proposed NYC Fire Code Based on IFC

 
The New York City Fire Department has completed a final draft of a new Fire Code---the first comprehensive revision of the City’s Fire Code in almost a century. The proposed new code is based on the International Fire Code (IFC). The changes come after an extensive three-year Fire Code revision project to review and update fire safety standards throughout the City.

PMG Group Presents in California

Fire, water, earth and wind all made their mark on the Plumbing–Heating–Cooling Contractors (PHCC) convention in Anaheim, California. Code Council Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) staff attended the meeting, which brought together representatives from the American Supply Association and PHCC National Association to discuss issues such as green plumbing, water conservation and a national toilet standard. First Energy Star-Certified Geothermal Project in North America

Dalton’s Edge senior living apartments feature green roofs and geothermal heating and cooling.

The senior population of the Tarentum and Brackenridge boroughs northeast of Pittsburgh had few high-quality, affordable housing options. The Allegheny County Housing Authority addressed the problem by developing Dalton’s Edge Apartments—120 new senior living apartments featuring green roofs and geothermal heating and cooling. The $20 million project, is built to the 2003 International Building Code, and is the first Open-Loop Geothermal Affordable Housing Energy Star-Certified project in the country according to Energy Star. Q: Section 1507.12 of the 2006 International Building Code requires a flat roof to have at least a 1/4":12" slope in order to have sufficient rain water run off. Shanghai, Moscow Delegates Visit ICC

The Code Council hosted two delegations visiting the Los Angeles District Office. Representatives from the Russian Science and Technology Center of Applied Advanced Technology Company, Ltd (ApATeCh) met with the Council’s International Services, ICC-ES and IAS staff to learn more about the IAS laboratory accreditation program and the ICC-ES evaluation process and procedures.

Delegates from the Shanghai Construction Group, Construction Design Institute, Municipal People’s Government Construction and Transportation Commission, and General Administration for Construction and Construction Materials learned about the Code Council and the U.S. building regulatory system.

Chinese construction industry delegates with Code Council International Services representatives.

Representatives from ApATeCh meet with Code Council International Services, ICC-ES and IAS staff.

Arlington County Tours Headquarters

The Inspection Services Team of the Arlington County, Virginia, Department of Community Planning, Housing and Development enjoys the rooftop view of the NAR Building in Washington, D.C., which houses the Code Council’s headquarters.

NIST Researcher Visits Code Council

From the Shandong Institute of Standardization in China, Carrie Xie, Standards Specialist and Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, is in a one-year program on rotation with a number of American-based standards organizations. She visited with Code Council staff to learn more about codes and the U.S. regulatory system.
