Codes Presented to UNM and UA
Code Council staff celebrated the holiday season by presenting Council code books to the University of New Mexico (UNM), Fine Arts Library, Architecture Collection, and the University of Arkansas (UA) Libraries. The donations are part of an initiative with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to place a complete set of International Codes in the libraries of AIA-accredited schools of architecture.

The Greening of OAS Buildings
The Organization of American States (OAS) is interested in reducing its “carbon footprint” and Code Council staff were happy to share various Council energy initiatives with OAS Principal Environmental Specialist Richard Huber. OAS has initiated a project to address energy conservation in OAS buildings.

DOB Receives Council Certificate
In recognition of the New York City Department of Buildings’ (DOB) active participation in the Code Council process, DOB Commissioner Patricia Lancaster and Assistant Commissioner Benjamin Jones received a Code Council Jurisdictional Membership Certificate. Three DOB staff members were appointed to Council standing committees and the DOB succeeded in getting its first code change passed at last year’s Codes Forum in Rochester‚ New York. |

Council to Assist CONAVI
Code Council staff met with representatives from Mexico to discuss development of that nation’s Residential Code Project. The Council will be assisting Mexico’s National Housing Commission (CONAVI) with the implementation of this program, to be sponsored by the World Bank. The group also discussed potential evaluation services, certification and accreditation opportunities in future phases of the project. |

Code Council Meets with NCMA
Code Council staff met with representatives of the National Concrete Masonry Association (NCMA) at Code Council Headquarters in Washington, D.C., to discuss partnering to develop several new value-added products. Talks included a new book on inspecting and testing concrete masonry construction, which is due out next month. |

Council Attends ASHRAE Meeting
Code Council CEO Rick Weiland and Board President Steve Shapiro participated in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers' (ASHRAE) Winter Meeting this past weekend in New York City. They attended the Welcoming Reception‚ ASHRAE Board meeting and President’s Reception. The Code Council was also represented
