The International Code Council encourages all ICC Members to review their member records for accuracy to ensure eligible voters can obtain their voting credentials. This applies to the February Codes Forum in Palm Springs, Calif., and all ICC events where voting members vote as stated in ICC bylaws.
An update to the International Code Council policy CP-28 governing voting on code change proposals at code development hearings requires that modifications to member status must be received by ICC 10 days prior to the start of a public hearing. That would be Feb. 8 for the hearings at Codes Forum, Feb. 18–March 1, in Palm Springs, Calif. Don't delay. Review your membership record now.
The change aims to make sure that eligible voters are able to vote on assembly motions during the hearings. A successful vote on assembly motions will automatically place the code change on the Final Action Agenda for consideration at the Final Action Hearings in September. Voting members are encouraged to review their membership record for accuracy and to pre-register for the Code Development Hearings. There is no cost to pre-register or attend code hearings.
Here are the most frequently asked questions about CP-28 and changes to the policy. Click on the question to view the answer.
Q. What will ICC members be voting on in Palm Springs? A. At the Code Development Hearings at the Codes Forum in Palm Springs, all ICC members in good standing are allowed to vote on assembly motions. Once the code committee makes its recommended action on a code change, the assembled body can also make an “assembly motion” which is different than the action taken by the committee. A successful vote on assembly motions will automatically place the code change on the Final Action Agenda for consideration at the Final Action Hearings in September.
Q. What do I have to do to vote at Codes Forum in Palm Springs? A. You need to have correct information in your membership
record. You are strongly urged to check
your membership record now, or at least ten (10) days
before the start of the hearings, to make sure the info is
correct. For Codes Forum in Palm Springs, that
would be no later than Feb. 8. While you can attend the hearings
without checking your record, and register on site to obtain
your voting credentials, if there are errors in the record,
you will not be able to vote.
Q. If I am a current member, do I need
to check my membership record? A. All voting members are strongly encouraged to view
their membership record for accuracy well in advance of any
public hearing so that any necessary changes can be made before
the new 10-day deadline in CP-28. If you want to make sure
you can vote at Codes Forum in Palm Springs, it
is to your advantage to check
your membership record information. If there is wrong
information in the record, you will not be able to vote.
Q. When should I review my membership data
to make sure I can vote on code change proposals at the
Codes Forum?

your membership record right now.

do anything else except pre-register
for Codes Forum in Palm Springs. By pre-registering,
your voting credentials will be waiting for you when you arrive
in Palm Springs.
