Proposals to update the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building
Code and State Energy Conservation Construction Code in New
York State (NYS) were recently published, thus beginning a
public comment period that continues through March 7. As part
of the public comment period, hearings will be conducted in
Albany, Syracuse, Amherst and Hempstead. Comments received
during this period will be presented for final consideration
by the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council on
March 22. The proposals are based on the 2003 editions of
the International Residential Code, IBC, IPC, IMC,
International Fuel Gas Code, IFC, International
Property Maintenance Code, International Existing Building
Code and International Energy Conservation Code
with NYS modifications developed by the State Fire Prevention
and Building Code Council and its Technical Subcommittees.
NYS modifications have been integrated with provisions of
the I-Codes to create the December 2006 editions of the Codes
of New York State.
