CABO to Co-Sponsor Universal Accessibility Conference
April 1997
Joining a list of more than ten organizations and companies,
CABO has agreed to co-sponsor The Universal Accessibility Conference.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA), in partnership with
the United States Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance
Board (Access Board), will hold the conference June 12-13, 1997,
at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. hotel.
Public and Private Sector Leaders to Attend
The conference will draw on the expertise of public and private-sector
leadership, including architects, building code officials, owners,
contractors, engineers, disability rights organizations, and
government officials. Participants will explore and discuss the
requirements of the nation s laws addressing accessibility for
people with disabilities for existing, as well as newly constructed
and altered buildings. Specific subjects include the Americans
with Disabilities Act guidelines for buildings and facilities,
enforcement of the Act, education, code certification, the Fair
Housing Act, and recommendations for updating the ADA accessibility
guidelines.
Information Resource
One of the most important components of this conference is
its Information Resource Center featuring government and industry-related
educational materials on the ADA and Fair Housing Act from key
co-sponsoring organizations and federal agencies.

In addition to CABO, co-sponsors of the forum include Paralyzed
Veterans of America, United Cerebral Palsy Associations, Associated
