As a result of the November 19-20, 1997 meetings of the Boards
of Directors of the Council of American Building Officials (CABO)
and the International Code Council (ICC), it has been agreed
to authorize the preparation of instruments to allow CABO to
be incorporated into the ICC.
A Single Voice
Since the organizational/statutory members (BOCA, ICBO and
SBCCI) of both organizations are the same; and the essential
purpose and goals of both organizations are the same -- to serve
the interest of code enforcement officials representing state
and local governments -- it was agreed that merging the organizations
would provide a single, clear focused voice and would be a significantly
more effective and efficient use of time, resources, and influence.
Integrated Administrative System
Anticipating the continued use of model code organization
staffs to provide the technical support for the development and
maintenance of the International Codes and support services,
the ICC believes that an integrated administrative system could
provide much needed consistency and coordination at the administrative
level. Having a central source of information for policy and
administrative matters would greatly enhance the efforts of the
ICC.
CABO Staff To Be Nucleus
The existing CABO staff, which is located in Washington, DC
will be used as the nucleus of the integrated administrative
system for the International Code Council, Inc., as well as continue
to carry out the CABO mission. The CABO Chief Executive Officer,
Richard P. Kuchnicki, will become the ICC Executive Vice President.
