ICC Code Development Hearings Set for April in Alexandria, Virginia
December 1997
The 1998 ICC Code Development Hearings are scheduled for April
14-24, 1998, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel at Mark Center in Alexandria,
Virginia. The meeting will bring together code officials, architects,
engineers and others interested in International Codes development,
to consider proposed code changes to the International Building
Code (IBC) and the International Fire Code (IFC).
Code Change Proposals To Be Deliberated
Participants will also deliberate on the code change proposals
to the other International Codes, including: International Zoning
Code, International Property Maintenance Code, Model Energy Code,
International Fuel Gas Code, International Mechanical Code, International
Plumbing Code and International Private Sewage Code.
Hearings Are Significant
The hearings are significant in that the results will form
the basis of the 2000 International Building Code, and it will
be the only hearing on he draft of the International Fire Code.
This history-making event will result in the publication of documents
that will set the standard for code enforcement into the twenty-first
century.
Members To Exercise Voting Privilege
Attendees at the hearings will be permitted to reflect their
view on proposals on the floor and eligible voters will be able
to take part in an assembly action vote on proposals to the first
drafts. The assembly action voting process, which overrides the
committees, is designed to "get it right the first time,"
by permitting the members to exercise their voting privilege
on proposals at the public hearing.
