ICC salutes fire service at annual dinner

The International Code Council (ICC) will host a delegation of fire officials at the 15th Annual National Fire and Emergency Services Dinner to be held April 30 in the nation's capital. The theme for this year's dinner is "Securing Our Homeland."

"ICC is proud to pay tribute to the first responders who all too often put their lives on the line to protect the public," said ICC CEO Bob D. Heinrich. "Fire service and emergency responders relentlessly protect the public and our nation. Whether it is responding to a major catastrophe or participating in code development and other fire prevention activities, we all owe a great debt of gratitude to these heroes."

A member of the National Advisory Committee of the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) and supporter of the annual fundraising event since 1992, ICC is dedicated to public safety and the safety of first responders.

The dinner usually draws more than 1,600 attendees to Washington, D.C. Appropriate to this year's theme, the keynote speaker is Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge. The program will include remarks from Congressional Fire Services Caucus Chairman Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and other caucus leaders, and an award presentation. Congressman James Walsh (R-NY) will receive the CFSI Legislator of the Year Award.

Hosting the two table ICC delegation will be Board President Paul E. Myers, Senior Vice President of Membership Dominic Sims, Vice President of Public Policy Sara C. Yerkes, and ICC Regional Directors of Fire Service Activities Larry Bazaar, Mel Cosgrove, Page Dougherty and Daniel Lane.

Members of the delegation will include J. L. Tidwell, Executive Deputy Chief, City of Fort Worth (TX) Fire Department and ICC Board Member; Dwayne M. Garris, Georgia Assistant State Fire Marshal; Jackie T. Gibbs, Fire Chief, Marietta (GA) Fire Department; Lee Wheeler, Fire Chief, Renton (WA) Fire Department; Tom Lariviere, Fire Chief, Madison (MS) Fire Department; Robert G. Stahl, Jr., Fire Chief, Southampton (PA); Robert J. Weitzel, Fire Chief, Green Township Fire Department, Cincinnati (OH); Charles Coyle, Deputy Fire Chief/Fire Marshal, St. Louis (MO) Fire Department; Joe Pierce, Deputy Chief, Dallas (TX) Fire Department; Kevin Scott, Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal, Kern County Fire Department, Bakersfield (CA); Bart Wright, Fire Marshal, Ponce Inlet (FL) Fire Department; and Ron J. Coleman, Fire Chief (Retired), Elk Grove (CA).

The ICC, a 50,000-member association dedicated to building safety, develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. The majority of U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose building safety and fire prevention codes developed by the ICC.
