ICC names Tidwell Director of Fire Service Activities

The International Code Council announces the appointment of Jim Tidwell as National Director of Fire Service Activities. He will lead the ICC's fire service programs, and serve as liaison to national fire service and fire protection related organizations and secretariat to the International Fire Code Council.

"I like dealing with a person who understands the fire service," said Bob Weitzel, Fire Chief, Green Township, Ohio, and IFCC member. "Jim Tidwell can relate. He's worked in the business and has a better view of what the fire service and fire code officials need as tools.

Tidwell has a strong background working with and enforcing building and fire safety codes. He is a 30-year veteran of the Fort Worth Fire Department where he served in every rank including Chief. He also served on the ICC Board of Directors. Prior to the ICC consolidation, he was a model code organization board member. He served on the Uniform Fire Code Development Committee from 1988 to 1997, including two years as chairman. He also served three years on the Fire Risk Assessment Committee for the Uniform Building Code.

"Jim Tidwell is a marvelous addition to the ICC staff," said ICC CEO James Lee Witt. "I am confident that ICC and public safety will directly benefit from Jim's background with the fire service and experience on the ICC board and committees."

Based in Falls Church, Virginia, Tidwell will be working with fire service professionals nationwide. He will begin his new responsibilities on July 1.

The ICC, a 50,000-member association dedicated to building safety, develops the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings, including homes and schools. The majority of U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose building safety and fire prevention codes developed by the ICC.
