ICC Code Official Institute teaches code enforcement administrative
skills;

The Code Official Institute, cosponsored by the Building
Officials Association of Florida, is a must-attend event for
code enforcement department administrators who want to improve
administrative skills and become exceptional in their public
service career. Professionals planning to take the ICC Certified
Building Official Examination also will benefit by attending
the institute.
The four-day institute, October 1922 in Orlando, Florida,
focuses on legal aspects of code administration, financial
management, ethics and the code profession, effective communication
skills and personnel management. The institute features expert
authorities and an interactive format between session leaders
and attendees.
The registration fee for the Code Official Institute, $499
for ICC members and $599 for nonmembers, includes instructional
materials, continental breakfast, lunches and break refreshments.
A 15% group discount applies if three or more institute registrations

Other educational offerings from ICC slated for this fall
include three new Audio Virtual Seminars. These seminars provide
access to training via a speaker phone. AVS include handouts
and question-and-answer periods to provide the learner with
a thorough understanding of each topic. One low registration
fee, $175, pays for an unlimited number of participants at

"Preventing TragediesDesign and Inspection of
Porches and Balconies," Oct. 1 (register by Sept. 24)
is based on the 2003 International Existing Building Code
and the 2003 International Building Code. The seminar addresses
technical and administrative aspects of porches and balconies.
"Fire SeriesMeans of Egress Issues in Existing
Buildings," Nov. 5 (register by Oct. 29) explores egress
as it applies to existing buildings, common means of egress
violations in existing buildings and issues specific to assembly
use groups.
"Fire SeriesInterior Finish Considerations in
Existing Buildings," Nov. 19 (register by Nov.12) is
based on the 2003 International Fire Code and 2003 International
Existing Building Code. The seminar looks at fire inspection
issues related to interior finishes, decorative materials
and furnishings.
