ICC participates in tsunami recovery and reconstruction
International Code Council Board President Frank Hodge
and CEO James Lee Witt are on a two-week mission to Asia
to evaluate the damage from December's earthquake and tsunami.
The two are part of a group assessing long-term recovery
and reconstruction in Thailand, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
The mission is an opportunity to rebuild Southeast Asia
with stronger and more sustainable communities and to lessen
the impact of future disasters, Hodge said. It also allows
the International Code Council to share its knowledge and
experience in building safety to aid in reconstruction efforts.
The trip is sponsored by the US-ASEAN Business Council,
a group of private American businesses dedicated to strengthening
US-Asian relations through strong economic and commercial
ties.
The International Code Council, a membership association
dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, develops
the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings,
including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties
and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes
developed by the International Code Council.
