Alabama building official named to International Code Council Board
James Brothers, Director of the Decatur, Ala., Building
Department, has been appointed to fill a vacant seat on
the International Code Council Board of Directors.
Brothers has been an active member of the International
Code Council and its legacy organization, the Southern Building
Code Congress International, since 1989.
"As an ICC Board member I hope to ensure that the
organization remains focused on the development of highly
skilled code officials through superior member support and
high quality training and development programs," said
Brothers. "It's important to understand how effective
and important the code enforcement profession is to public
health, safety and welfare."
Brothers also serves on the International Accreditation
Services Board of Directors, a subsidiary of the International
Code Council, and will act as a liaison between the two
Boards.
Alabama's Code Official of the Year in 1997, Brothers serves
as Vice President of the Alabama Chapter of the American
Planning Association and is Past President of the North
Alabama Code Officials Association and the Code Officials
Association of Alabama. He is a 1977 graduate of the University
of Alabama.
Brothers replaces Dorothy Harris, who resigned her Board
position to become the International Code Council's Director
of State and Local Government Relations.
The International Code Council, a membership association
dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, develops
the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings,
including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties
and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes
developed by the International Code Council.
