New illustrated guide to building code is a resource for
designers
Architects and design professionals need to understand
and apply building code concepts when developing plans for
construction. A new resource, Building Codes Illustrated,
Second Edition, an illustrative guide to the 2006 International
Building Code (IBC), provides an easy-to-understand interpretation
in both words and illustrations.
Developed by the International Code Council and publisher
John Wiley & Sons, Building Codes Illustrated
highlights major changes between the new code and previous
model building codes and provides a straightforward understanding
of how the codes affect building design through the practice
of architecture.
"It is ICC's goal to help the architectural community
and other design professionals better understand and apply
the International Codes in the clearest possible way through
resources such as Building Codes Illustrated,"
said International Code Council Board President Wally Bailey.
"A better understanding of the codes will assist design
professionals and code officials in achieving the ICC vision
of building a safer world."
Building Codes Illustrated relies on the exceptional,
illustrative style of internationally-recognized author
and architect Francis D.K. Ching. Co-author Steven R. Winkel,
FAIA, a code expert, architect and engineer, structures
the book so that design professionals can find information
on the nonstructural provisions of the IBC with speed and
clarity. Topics include navigating the code, use and occupancy,
fire-resistive construction, accessibility, energy efficiency
and much more.
"Recent disasters highlight the importance of creating
better built environments," said Amanda L. Miller,
Vice President and Publisher, Professional/Trade Publishing
at John Wiley & Sons. "We are pleased to work with
a leading model code public safety organization such as
ICC to support this goal through the publication of essential
references."

dedicated to building safety and fire prevention, develops
the codes used to construct residential and commercial buildings,
including homes and schools. Most U.S. cities, counties
and states that adopt codes choose the International Codes
developed by the International Code Council.
